The name brand, The Prisoner, was inspired by the classic sketch Le Petit Prisoner by 19th century Spanish artist Francisco Goya. The reason for this sketch by Goya was to share and create a visual protest against injustice and brutality during the Spanish War of Independence in 1808. From the founding of their successful business, The Prisoner Wine Company has made a stand in solidarity to fight against racism, mass incarceration, and the inequality and oppression of Black communities.
